Tilapia Tacos

Tilapia is delicate and cooks fast, so watch your skillet carefully once the fish hits the oil, you want it golden and just cooked through, not dry. That chipotle crema sauce is what pulls everything together, so don't skip blending it smooth.

Tilapia Tacos

Gather

Ingredients

  • 1 pound tilapia filets
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • olive oil
  • purple cabbage slaw mix
  • 1 avocado pitted and sliced
  • crumbled cotija cheese
  • pre-made pico de gallo
  • fresh cilantro chopped
  • 4 corn torillas (I like to microwave them or heat them in a skillet before serving)
Spicy Crema Sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayo or sour cream
  • 1 Tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 whole canned chipotle pepper in adobe sauce

Let’s cook

Steps

  1. In a skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  2. Sprinkle taco seasoning on both sides of all of your tilapia filets.
  3. Sear the fish in the heated olive oil in the skillet until cooked through and crisp on the edges. Set Aside.
  4. Make the crema sauce by blending all of the ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  5. Build your tacos. Set the corn tortillas on your plate. Smear cream sauce on the bottom. Place seared fish on top. Top with all of your toppings; slaw, avocado slices, cotija cheese, pico, cilantro, lime juice. ENJOY (:
