Cindy's Hot Chocolate

Evaporated milk is the secret here, it makes the hot chocolate rich and smooth without needing cream in the base, so you get that luxurious mouthfeel even on a simple budget. Whip your cream ahead of time and you'll have a mug ready to dress up whenever you want one.

Cindy's Hot Chocolate

Gather

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate
  • 1 can pet milk "evaporated milk"
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Hershey's cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • water
Whipped Cream Topping
  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Optional Toppings
  • chocolate dust
  • marshmallows
  • cinnamon

Let’s cook

Steps

  1. Pour the pet milk into a medium sized sauce pan. Fill the pan to 3/4 full with water.
  2. Heat the milk and water over medium-high heat.
  3. Once the mixture starts to heat a couple of minutes, stir in the sugar, cocoa powder and salt.
  4. Mix well, and heat to temperature liking.
  5. In a large mixing bowl using a hand or stand mixer, whip the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar, until the mixture forms a stiff cream.
  6. Top with your favorite toppings, gather with friends & family around a fireplace and enjoy. :)
